Facebook Goes Green - Installs Solar Plants for Power and Shower

Facebook Goes Green
This is the latest trends have to adopt in this modern world,Following Google, IBM and other tech giants, Facebook also planned to go green by installing solar system on the roof top of its headquarters in Menlo Park, California. Cogenra Solar is going to install the solar system, which will not only generate power, is also going to harvest the unused, radiated heat energy for shower.

Cogenra Installing Solar Plants On Facebook Headquarters

In general the solar cells were capable of converting only the 15-20% of the sunlight falling over them into power, radiating the rest of the solar power as waste heat. This heat produced is also a threatening factor for the life and efficiency of solar cells.

To overcome this heating problem and to harvest the unused heat energy, Cogenra Solar came up with this new solar system which they alread installed this new model at Sonama Winery. This new solar plant is going to heat the water for shower and some other purposes at Facebook headquarters besides generating electricity.

In this solar system, Cogenra solar engineers placed an array of solar cells over the fluid containing tubes. These tubes filled with a mixture of fluid glycol could absorb the unused heat and pass the heat to the water heating system. By harvesting the unused heat along with power (electricity) generation, these Solar plants can turn, upto the 75% of the solar energy falling over the cells into usable energy.

For now, Facebook is planned to build this solar plant over a single building (from nine buildings) rooftop as an experiment. If the system proved to be so efficient they planned to install more on their remaining campus. Also, Facebook seeing this as a smart investment over green energy.Via SFgate

We would be happy ,if some of the Indian giants also try this green energy system in their buildings as well as promoting this in rural areas,it would help to minimise the power requirement in small but yet its a good for societ. We all know India is in scarcity for resources to generate power to meet the requirements.

What would you like to say about this action from facebook ? Let me see your thoughts in comments.
